Rotherham NHS Trust

Deal Day (Drug Education and Learning)

Background

The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust was keen to explore how e-learning could be utilised to benefit Trust staff. The vast majority of training is still delivered using classroom based methods.

DEAL day is a programme to support Drug Education And Learning. The target audience is predominantly nursing staff.

The focus of the materials is to ensure that nursing staff have the required professional and legal knowledge and practical skills to correctly calculate drug dosages

Key Driver

The materials were designed to be consumed over a six week period ensuring that the learning process is seamlessly integrated into a normal working day and notintrusive.

The materials are presented in a number of formats to stimulate and inform students as they work through. Matters relating to legal requirements and local drugs policy are given precedence and presented in appropriate, easily digestible blocks.

At the end of the materials there is an examination built up from a bank of over 150 questions. The relative weighting of these questions can be easily changed as the needs of the trust alter.

Each users score from the quiz is returned to a co-ordinator for audit purposes through an automatically generated email.

Key documents supplied by the Trust, RCN and NMC can be updated centrally in one place on the server thereby ensuring speedy access to updated learning as well as ensuring the process is as straightforward as possible.
