Retail System (CPFR)
Background
In July 1999 US retail giant Wal-Mart acquired ASDA Stores Ltd. Wal-Mart utilised a collaboration and planning tool in the States (CPFR - Collaboration, Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment), to empower their suppliers with more control over the amount of stock available at store level. On introducing the software to ASDA in the UK it was recognised that the use of the training materials should be made available to support the suppliers within the workplace, in order to maximise the benefits of using CPFR.
Key Driver
Dynamic Business Services were invited to develop learning materials to engage with the suppliers. Rather than conventional training, interactive methods were required to achieve the specific objective of allowing familiarisation and confidence of the system by suppliers.
Online materials were developed by Dynamic to form part of an overall training project, where the supplier was given a broad overview of the whole store replenishment procedure. Individuals were also given an opportunity to look at the live system with the Replenishment Manager responsible for their product lines.
As a result of successful implementation, the CPFR training initiative has been rolled out to approximately 1000 suppliers.
