Northern Rock – Performance Management

In late 2009, Northern Rock was undergoing a full restructuring programme to help enable it to return to the private sector. Part of this work was a change to the way that staff were managed and a new performance management system and framework were being introduced. This required all managers and staff to undergo training in the new process and to understand how a new process would benefit the staff, managers, the company and ultimately its customers.
Northern Rock and its consultants developed the actual performance management framework. Following a competitive tendering exercise, Dynamic were chosen as the e-learning supplier to develop two e-learning modules on performance management, one aimed at managers and a second module aimed at staff. Dynamic worked with Northern Rock staff and its consultants to create a very detailed and highly professional set of e-learning materials covering all aspects of the new performance management framework.
The project timescales were tight, there were only six weeks to the date when the new framework and system would be in place and the e-learning needed to be developed and delivered within this timescale. At Dynamic we used our tried and tested project management methodology to tightly manage each stage from initial concept, instructional design ideas and prototyping through to scripting and development. A video based scenario approach was at the heart of the e-learning materials, featuring a fictitious manager along with his team and his senior manager. The e-learning materials were used by all managers and staff in the business and allowed Northern Rock to deploy their new performance management framework and system on schedule as planned. In addition to the success of the deployment, the feedback from both managers and staff was so positive, that the company decided to expand its use of e-learning to other areas of the business. Dynamic continues to work with Northern Rock on their bespoke e-learning projects.
